The Cochlear Implant Communication Lab is located on George Washington University’s Foggy Bottom Campus. The Lab addresses a range of projects that examine the spoken language production and perception development, and abilities, of deaf children with cochlear implants (CI). Among the projects currently underway are studies of how CI children develop perception and production of speech features, CI children’s speech articulation characteristics as they relate to language development, voice quality characteristics and their contribution to speech intelligibility in CI children, and prosody characteristics and development of children with CIs.

The goal of this study is to investigate the relationship between perception and production of phonetic features in young deaf children who use cochlear implants. Funded by NIDRR, Rehabilitation Engineering and Research Center at Gallaudet University.
